OVER 100 SPECIALTY PAPERS WERE PRESENTED DURING THE ROMTRANSPLANT CONGRESS ON SEPTEMBER 15 AND 16

The 12th edition of the ROMTRANSPLANT Congress, the largest scientific event dedicated to transplant experts in Romania, took place between September 15 and 16, 2022, in Iași and in online format.

The scientific program included key topics in the management of organ transplantation, bringing together renowned experts from both the country and abroad, from countries such as: Germany, Italy, Great Britain, the Republic of Moldova, Norway and the USA, more than 110 papers in the field were supported liver, kidney, lung transplant and bone marrow, heart transplant as well as from related specialties. The more than 550 participants who registered had the opportunity to develop their professional knowledge at the event by accessing the latest studies.

The demonstration was preceded by a press conference attended by Mihai Chirica, the mayor of Iași; Dr. Adrian Covic – acting president of the ROMTRANSPLANT Association, primary internal medicine and nephrology physician at the Clinical Hospital “Dr. C. I. Parhon”; Dr. Irinel Popescu – honorary president of the ROMTRANSPLANT Association, director of the Center for Digestive Diseases and Liver Transplantation within the Fundeni Clinical Institute; Dr. Cristian Lupașcu – coordinator of the Liver Transplantation Program at the Emergency County Clinical Hospital “Sfântul Spiridon”, Iasi; Dr. Gabriel C. Oniscu, MD, FRCS(Ed), FRCS(Glas) – Consultant Transplant Surgeon | NRS Career Research Clinician | Honorary Reader in Transplantation.

At the end of the event, a memorandum of understanding was signed between ROMTRANSPLANT and the European Organ Transplantation Society. “This very clearly signals ESOT’s direction of travel to Eastern Europe, and we particularly want to put ROMTRANSPLANT in the middle of this adventure of ours in Europe. We hope on this occasion to take the transplant to a higher level and to offer colleagues in Romania the possibilities that ESOT has in terms of scholarships, educational access and participation in congresses with a membership discount. I hope that this will be the first step in a very long collaboration,” said Prof. Dr. Gabriel Oniscu, Iasi born surgeon established in Edinburgh for over 20 years and president of ESOT.

The first day of the event

On the first day of the event, the presentations were structured in three parallel rooms, in each of which several sessions took place. The first room was dedicated to organ preservation and organ resuscitation; “Donation after Circulatory Death” (DCD), Coordinator Professor Gabriel C. Oniscu, Edinburgh, Scotland- President-elect, ESOT and kidney transplantation – Coordinators Dr. Dorina Tacu, Dr. Florin Elec, Dr. Luminița Voroneanu, Simona Hogaș.

In the second room, the topics addressed were those regarding current events in transplant immunology – Coordinators Prof. Dr. Ileana Constantinescu, Prof. Dr. P. Cianga; reproductive cell – Coordinator Prof. Dr. Mircea Onofriescu, cornea/tendon transplant – Coordinator: Prof. Dr. Camelia Bogdănici, followed by Cardiac Transplant – Coordinator: Horatiu MOLDOVAN MD. PhD. Habil. FACC, Professor of Cardiovascular Surgery UMF Carol Davila.

The third room was the host of the course on brain death, coordinated by Mrs. Prof. Ioana Grințescu.

The second day of the congress

The second day of the congress was dedicated to liver transplantation, the work being coordinated by Prof. Dr. Irinel Popescu, Prof. Dr. Cristian Lupaşcu, Prof. Dr. Vladislav Brașoveanu, Prof. Anca Trifan, Prof. Dr. Adrian Hotineanu – Republic of Moldova , Dr. Speranţa Iacob, Dr. Radu Zamfir, Dr. Doina Hrehoreț, Dr. Mugur Grasu, Dr. Mariana Mihăilă.

The second room was dedicated to the Session of Transplant Coordinators – Dr. Victor Zota, Dr. Raluca Neagu Movilă, Dr. Carmen Pantiș, followed by the workshop: “Methods of paraclinical diagnosis of brain death” – The role of angio-CT of the brain: Conf. Dr. Corina Lupașcu-Ursulescu, The role of electroencephalography: Conf. Dr. Dan Zaharia.
