The 13th edition of the ROMTRANSPLANT Congress took place in Bucharest on October 8th and 9th, 2024, with the theme “Advancing Transplantation in Romania – Celebrating Long-Term Sustainability and Innovations.” The congress, endorsed for the first time by the European Society for Organ Transplantation (ESOT), provided a key platform for the transplant community to exchange knowledge on the latest advancements in transplant medicine.
The congress featured two days of in-depth discussions on heart, kidney, and liver transplantation, as well as related topics such as immunology and transplant coordination. The scientific program included eight scientific sessions and three symposia organized by various companies.
Seventeen international speakers from eleven countries delivered high-impact presentations. Notable speakers included Jean Paul Couetil, Costin Radu, Philippe Menasché, Pascal Leprince and Julien Guihaire from Paris, France; István Hartyánszky from Budapest, Hungary; Hector Vilca-Melendez from Birmingham, UK; and Gabriel Oniscu from Stockholm, Sweden; Chloë Ballesté from Barcelona, Spain; Frank Dor from Rotterdam, Netherlands; Jelena Stojanovic from London, United Kingdom; Umberto Cillo from Padova, Italy; Luciano Potena from Bologna, Italy; Xavier Charmetant from Lyon, France; Ekaterine Berishvili from Geneva, Switzerland, and Bojan Stević from Belgrade, Serbia. Over 270 participants attended the congress.
On October 9th, the ROMTRANSPLANT Association held its General Assembly, where the new board for 2026-2028 was unanimously elected. The newly appointed President-elect is Florin Elec, with Vice-Presidents Vladislav Brasoveanu, Nadim al Hajjar, and Cristian Lupascu, and Bogdan Dorobantu as General Secretary (also for 2024-2026).
The congress concluded with an invitation to the next ROMTRANSPLANT Congress, which will take place in Cluj in 2026.
