Between September 23-26, 2020, the 11th edition of the National Congress of the Romtransplant Association took place, online on the ZOOM platform. Its development also had a jubilee dimension marking some extremely important events for the field of Romanian medicine, such as: the 40th anniversary of the first kidney transplant in Romania and 20 years since the first kidney transplant performed in Iasi, the 20th anniversary years since the first liver transplant in our country and also 20 years since the first heart transplant.

The event took place under the high honorary patronage of the Mayor of Iași, Mihai Chirica and under the auspices of the Romtransplant Association, whose honorary president is Prof. Dr. Irinel Popescu and incumbent president – Prof. Dr. Cristian Lupașcu. They were joined by the prestigious institutions: “Grigore T. Popa” University of Medicine and Pharmacy, Iași, Sf. Spiridon Iași County Emergency Clinical Hospital – Second Section of Surgery, “Dr. C. I. Parhon ”, Iași – Department of Nephrology and Renal Transplant.

The congress was preceded by a press conference that was hosted on September 22 in the Senate Hall of the University of Medicine and Pharmacy “Grigore T. Popa” Iasi, and broadcast live by Tele Moldova Plus.

Together with the honorary president Prof. Dr. Irinel Popescu – Honorary President of the Romtransplant Association; Director of the Center for Digestive Diseases and Liver Transplantation within the Fundeni Clinical Institute; Prof. Dr. Cristian Lupașcu – Acting President of the Romtransplant Association; Coordinator of the Liver Transplant Program, Emergency County Clinical Hospital “Saint Spiridon”, Iasi were also present the distinguished Prof. Dr. Adrian Covic – Primary Care Internal Medicine; Primary Physician Nephrology; Doctor of Medical Sciences, Clinical Hospital „Dr. C. I. Parhon ”, Iași; Prof. Dr. Viorel Scripcariu – Rector of the University of Medicine and Pharmacy “Grigore T. Popa”, Iasi; Prof. Dr. Eugen Târcoveanu – Surgeon at the Emergency County Clinical Hospital “Saint Spiridon”, Iasi and Dr. Radu Zamfir – Executive Director of the National Transplant Agency.

This high-profile scientific event brought together renowned professionals from both the country and abroad, from countries such as: USA, Italy, Poland, Great Britain, Holland, Austria and the Republic of Moldova, which for 4 days, supported over 120 works of great medical value. During this edition of the National Congress of the Romtransplant Association, the approach was unprecedented so far, bringing together no less than 10 specialized sections: Liver Transplant, Kidney Transplant, Tissue Transplant, Hematopoietic Stem Cell Transplant, Transplant Cardiac, Transplant Immunology, Brain Death Course, Reproductive Cell, Transplant Coordinator Session and last but not least, Session Dedicated to Nurses. These took place in parallel, with two and even three sessions per day, with an audience of over 750 participants.
